Shieldfield Art Works
After research revealed that the neighbourhood had no folk song, pop song, or nursery rhyme to its name Ceitidh Mac and Andrew Wilson delivered a Song for Shieldfield workshop as an invitation to make our own.
All were welcome to attend, no experience in music or song writing was necessary.
The result was ‘A Song for Shieldfield’ which can be heard below and was used in the feature film 100 People: A Portrait of Existence.
A Song for Shieldfield (Lyrics)
At the wild and windy corner
Near the Shieldfield high-rise flats
You’ll meet a canny group of folk
Sitting, laughing, sharing a joke
Shieldfield, Shieldfield is life
People swinging oh so high
Shieldfield is a safe space
Behind each door a smiling face
More dogs walking and children chatting
The Sundial telling us when to relax
Riding bikes and running around crazy
Echoing in the Stairwells
Shieldfield, Shieldfield is life
People swinging oh so high
Shieldfield is a safe space
Behind each door a smiling face
Echoes coming all together
Rattling leaves, People chanting
Singing, dancing, humming Motorway
Knock-knock, tap-tap, hammering
Shieldfield, Shieldfield is life
People swinging oh so high
Shieldfield is a safe space
Behind each door a smiling face
Wind brings the smell of bread
From the bakery to my head
Lots of children love to play
Under sunshine’s dazzling rays
Shieldfield, Shieldfield is life
People swinging oh so high
Shieldfield is a safe space
Behind each door a smiling face
